Participation in a training event within the project “Positive Parenting (P+): an autism parent training to address children problem behavior and teach them socially important skills”
In the period from 9th to 13th of May, our team was part of a training event that was held in Brno, Czech Republic as part of the project “Positive Parenting (P+): an autism parent training to address children problem behavior and teach them socially important skills”.
We had an opportunity to work together with our partners from Romania, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Spain and Italy. During this training a Positive Parenting Curriculum was presented. The focus of the Positive Parenting Curriculum is providing education to potential trainers of caregivers of children with autism on the use of behavior analytic strategies for improving behavior. Each partner organization was actively involved in the training and presentation of the training materials.
During this week the participants had a chance to go through all of the units of the Positive Parenting Curriculum and discuss about understanding autism, what the ABA method is and how we can use it when working with children with autism, what is reinforcement and how can we use it effectively.
Our team talked about the Token Economy System in theory and practice and building the token economy system at home.
The rest of the training was focused on functional communication training, teaching social skills to children with autism, managing challenging behaviors at home, recognizing some warning signs and calming techniques.
