Exploring social interaction and communication in autism

02/Jul/22 – 10/Jul/22

Valencia, Spain

Your students may range from having very limited or no expressive verbal communication skills to articulate their thoughts and needs with an extensive vocabulary. However, they all will need support with processing receptive communication information – and for those who speak, support with various semantic and pragmatic expressive difficulties or reciprocal communication skills. Also, social skills are closely connected to social communication and underpin all social activity and interaction. It is important to identify, actively teach and acknowledge the importance of developing communication and social skills, to allow students to maximize social capabilities.

This training was created upon practical experiences, latest data in the world, and based on research conducted on parents and professionals who highlighted their needs. The research was conducted under Erasmus projects in the period from 2015 to 2020 in several European countries.

It will provide you with information and practical skills about developing social and communication skills in your students on the spectrum.

After the training, you will be able to:

  • understand the social skill challenges of students with ASD
  • be able to identify methods and tools of teaching different social skills
  • implement basic techniques and tools for teaching and supporting social skills development
  • identify the different expressive and receptive communication skill difficulties for individual students with ASD
  • use a range of strategies, approaches, and programs to help teachers both accommodate and develop the communicative needs of students.
